Requirements to apply for Australian passports in USA

There are different types of forms you have to fill when applying for a passport. It either has to be the PC7 form for passport renewal or PC8 form for fresh passport applications. There’s a PC8 form for all children applicants under the age of 17. However, when filling the form at the global website, it will redirect you to the best form.

Applicants who can use the PC8 form must be under this category:

you are applying for a first ever Australian passport and don’t have applied before
you are an adult applying for a child passport (under 18 years of age)
you are applying for a first adult passport. However, your child passport was issued to you at 15 years or younger
you are replacing a lost or stolen passport in the USA
you have a passport before but you are changing your name or personal details on the passport (this application may require more forms to confirm this)
You were not Australian citizen but you are applying for your first passport after getting citizenship of Australia
you are applying to replace a limited validity passport, emergency passport, or other temporary travel document that you have
you have a passport but it was issued to you before 01/01/2006
While applying for passport renewal, you cannot answer the security questions for the renewal form.

Requirements to apply using the PC7 form

Mostly, when you are in the United States and your passport expires, you have to apply for renewal filling this form. However, you have to meet this criteria if you wish to renew your passport using this form.

You are applying as an adult at the age of 18 or older
The passport you currently have was issued to you when you were 16 years of age
Although you are applying for renewal, you don’t have the plans to change your original details
The previous passport you had was of a minimum of 2 years validity
You have not reported that your previous passport was stolen or lost
Your previous passport was issued to you after 01/01/2006
You answered the questions on the application form correctly.
